I’ve been visiting Madurai Mes for the past 5 years, and it has always been one of my go to places for Madurai and Chennai style food. They’re known for dishes like Thalappakatti Biryani, Ambur Biryani, and Meen Varuval, and I’ve had some really good experiences here over the years. Unfortunately, today’s visit was quite disappointing. I had the Ambur Chicken Biryani and Mutton Varuval as an appetizer, and both were noticeably bland. The food was lacking both salt and spice, to the point where the flavors were barely coming through. It just didn’t taste anything like what I’ve been used to from this restaurant. I’m not sure what has changed, but hopefully this is just an off day and the original taste comes back soon. It would be great to see the same flavors and quality that made me keep coming back for five years. Overall: Disappointing visit this time, especially considering how much I’ve enjoyed this place in the past. I’d still like to give it another try in the future and see if the old taste returns.

It was amazing, my okra was delicious, the fried curd paneer was good, the dhosa was flavorful and crispy. The food tasted very fresh, the oil tasted clean. The flavor is here, they know what they are cooking. Overall, very pleased with our visit here and will come back to try some more deliciousness.

My husband had been hoping to try one of this restaurant’s special dishes that they only make occasionally, and when we asked about it, they went above and beyond. Not only were they willing to make it, but they prepared enough for our group of 11 people! The dish was absolutely delicious and exceeded our expectations. What really stood out, though, was the level of hospitality and customer service. It’s rare to find a restaurant that is so accommodating and willing to make something special happen for their customers. We truly appreciate the extra effort they put in for our group, and we’ll definitely be back. Highly recommend supporting a business that cares this much about its customers!

We came all the way from austin to eat here and the food and service disappointed us. The authentic food they say they have isn’t there, it is not authentic at all and let me tell you how it went downhill. We ordered the chicken 65 and on the menu it says it only comes dry and we are used to eating it like that so we ordered it. Once we got it, it was not dry and instead it was wet. We told the waiter and he said he would call his colleague. The colleague was a partner is business and was incredibly rude to us ( he told us that this is how it’s made in the whole US in a rude tone and my dad said that he started that conversation very rudely).We will not be coming back here for the service, the biryani is probably the only good thing on the menu (bhai kadhai biryani). -my daughter

Visited this place on a Saturday afternoon and found it pleasantly busy, which is always a good sign. Despite the crowd, the service was quick and efficient. We tried the non-veg thali, veg thali, a combo tiffin, and their railway chai—and everything was exceptional. The thalis are definitely the highlight here. Every single item served was flavorful and truly brought out authentic South Indian tastes. If you’re someone who enjoys a good thali, this place is a must-visit. The ambience adds to the experience, especially with food served on banana leaves—it felt very traditional and authentic. A special mention to the staff member Bala who took our order—very patient, friendly, and always smiling. Overall, we absolutely loved the place. The food is delicious, the experience is authentic, and it’s definitely worth the price. Highly recommended!
